Fall is my favorite time of the year. While the fall season is usually short, there is much to enjoy, including the beautiful colors, cool nights, bountiful harvest, fall festivals and foods unique to the season.

I have been busy putting together an interesting selection of books, mining collectibles and minerals that I hope will be of interest to you. Also, if you are looking for any special books, please let me know. Your business and suggestions are really appreciated! Enjoy perusing this Newsletter!

Most items in this Newsletter are mailed to you postpaid. Please add 75 cents to your order to cover Postal Delivery Confirmation cost. Wisconsin residents please add 5% state sales tax. SPECIAL – VERY SCARCE - MINER’S CANARY CAGE – This unique canary cage measures approximately 6 ¼” long x 4 ¾” wide x 6” high and is made from wood. Each rail is approx. 5” high x 1/8” dia. There is a water container attached to one of the side rails. Two perches for the bird to stand on  are attached to the side rails and cover the width of the cage. Very good condition. H771  MINING AMONG THE CLOUDS: THE MOSQUITO RANGE AND THE ORIGINS OF COLORADO’S SILVER BOOM by Harvey N. Gardiner, 2002. The author examines what one reporter dubbed “aerial” mining-silver mining at such high altitudes that the miners were literally working among the clouds. In the summer of 1871, two prospectors ventured high up Mount Bross in Colorado’s Mosquito Range. There they discovered an outcropping of silver ore in blue limestone. An unprecedented find, it set off strike after strike in Park County. Thus began the silver boom that gave rise to Leadville, laying the foundation for Colorado’s Silver Decade. 132 pages, photographs, soft cover. $15.95 pp.

H780  NO ONE AILING EXCEPT A PHYSICIAN: MEDICINE IN THE MINING WEST, 1848-1919 by Duane A. Smith & Ronald C. Brown. 2001. The OLD VICTORIA MINE was located in the western end of Michigan’s “Copper Country”. Also covered by the author is the history of the removal of the Ontonagon River copper boulder in 1843. Well researched! Large size, 161 pages, photos, maps, bibliography, soft cover. $24.95 pp.

DPB DuPONT BLASTING CAP BOX – 100 Blasting Caps No. 6. DuPont  logo is in the center. Approx. 3 ¼”  x      1 ½” x 1 ¾” high, burgundy color, cardboard with metal reinforced edges. $17.95 pp.

CRI COPPER RANGE COPPER INGOT – 7 ¼” x 2 1/2" x 1 ¼” thick. The ends of the ingot are rounded. CR is cast on one end of the ingot with 1” high letters. This ingot weighs approx. 7 pounds. Copper Range operated the White Pine Mine which was located in White Pine, MI. $99.95 pp.

AF1 DISCOVER SILVER: ADVERTISING FOLDER – This is really neat! This approx. 12 ½” x8 ½” folder discusses the Comstock Lode, Virginia City, Tonapah, Rawhide, etc. Vignette on front page, replica of Rawhide Coalition Mines Co. stock certificate included. The last paragraph on the back cover states: “The big silver rush today is to New Sugar Free Certs in the silver wrapper!” Illustrations of the four flavors of Certs in silver packaging are at the bottom of the page. TB1 WHITE PINE MINE TEST BILLET – Test billets were cast in various shapes and used in the lab to analyze the quality and chemical make-up of the copper. This test billet is approx. 2” in diameter x ¾” thick and weighs approx.  one pound. $29.95 pp.

C&H CALUMET & HECLA CRUSHED COPPER ORE SAMPLES – These test samples are rarely seen today! The copper ore was crushed in different sizes so  metallurgical tests could be performed in C&H’s laboratory. The ore samples are stored in round wooden containers approximately 1 7/8” dia. x 1 ¼” high with cover on. A code number is written on each box. The wooden containers are really neat!. $15.95 pp. (Two available)
