V32  COPPER MINING HISTORY DVD by Neil Harri, 2009. This is a historical aerial tour along Keweenaw’s Copper Ridge. This DVD shows the sites of the famous copper mine boom that  began here in 1844. The geology of this area attracted the prehistoric copper miners as well as lured the early explorers to the Keweenaw. FM1  NATIVE COPPER FILLING GAS PIPES IN VOLCANIC ROCK – Copper Falls, Michigan (Keweenaw County) is the only place that copper is found in this form. The copper, looking similar to a tapered nail is sitting on matrix. Size approx. 2 ½” long x 1 ½” wide x 1” high. Scarce! $49.95 pp.

FM4  ANALCIME CRYSTALS – Washington Mine (Keweenaw County, Michigan) Another specimen showing two nice crystals on matrix. Size approx. 1 ½” long x 2” deep x 1 ¼” high. $13.95 pp.

ROPES GOLD MINE ORE SPECIMENS – The Ropes Gold Mine is located near Ishpeming, Michigan and was formed in 1881 by Julius Ropes. The mine most recently operated in the 1980s by Callahan Mining Corporation. The mine is now closed. These attractive specimens come from a historic gold mine! The cross-section specimens show the quartz, pyrite and serpentine marble.

RG1  This Ropes specimen is approximately 9” long x 5” wide x 5/16” thick. $29.95 pp.

FM5  WHITE PINE SHEET COPPER, WHITE PINE MINE, WHITE PINE, MICHIGAN – This sheet copper specimen with a small amount of black shale to accent the copper is approx. 11” long x 8” high. Displays well. $89.95

DATOLITE SPECIMENS Datolite is a borosilicate mineral (hardness: 5 – 5.5) It is associated with native copper deposits in Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula. At times, specks of copper or silver appear with the datolite.

CAP COPPER ASSAY PLUG/INGOT – Hurley Smelter, Hurley just South of the Chino Mine near Silver City, Grant County, New Mexico. Approx. 1 3/8” dia. Shaped like a round tent. The top comes to a point. A copper core sample has been removed from the bottom side. Weighs approx. 3 ¼” ounces. Excellent condition. $22.00 pp.

CL3  CARBIDE LAMP – GUYS DROPPER – Manufactured by Shanklin Mfg. Co., Springfield, Illinois. The lamp is brass, approx. 3 ¾” tall with a 13/16” wide spade hook. 2 ¾” diameter reflector, excellent condition. $42.95 pp.
